Health Promotion and Communication

Course description

This course deals with concepts and theories of social science and related fields that are relevant to health promotion in human population. Issues related to group and community health promotion practices will be covered. It also addresses behavior change models and health communication strategies.

Course outcomes


Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Describe the interrelationship between behavioral sciences and community medicine
• Define major terms and concepts related to behavioral sciences
• Describe the main determinants of health behavior
• Explain the concepts of community organization
• Describe and explain the theories of communication, communication process; factors influencing effective communication process
• Explore the process of planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in health education and will be able to translate the theoretical skills into practice
• Describe the concept of social marketing in health
